I am blessed. I know it.
I first heard about Kate Church not long after we moved to Nova Scotia. On a beautiful Summer day, I had returned to the Lahave Bakery Gallery, to purchase Peonie and Crow. A little sculpture of a woman walking effortlessly with a tiny crow by her side. A free spirit, going through a life full of colours. In her own special way, she became my little Kate Church.
As I entered the Gallery, I was welcomed by a beautiful petite woman.. We had exchanged a few words before I realized that I was talking to Kate. I don’t remember what we talked about, but I remember her saying we were Kindred Spirits. I left smiling and knew with certainty, we would meet again.
Almost a year went by. I knew she had been going through hard times related to her health. I waited and hoped we would get the chance to continue our conversation.
One day, the Lunenburg School of the Arts announced their Fall/Winter Workshops. There it was… The Story is in the Making – Figurative Assemblage and Mixed Media by Kate Church.
I knew it was going to be a memorable experience; little that I know it would become a Life Changing Journey. She brought together a group of amazing women, all different and unique, who all brought their Own Story in the Making.
I am so grateful to be a part of this extraordinary group; where I got to know the Artist, the Teacher and the Amazing, Tender, Playful, Joyful, and Delightful Woman, Kate is.
We are Kindred Spirits.

A few weeks ago, she invited me to her Studio. It was as magical as I had imagined… My eyes were not big enough to take everything in.
I thought, for International Women’s Day, I would take you to my dear friend, Kate Church’s Art Studio !
May you also be inspired by Women like her!
