For more than a month and a half, I’ve been wanting to tell the story of my little Bunny Pin Pal. The Spring whirlwind seems to have disrupted my creative flow and projects, but hey are still very alive… and growing, while waiting patiently for their time to come!
During the winter months, I have received memories and anecdotes… of my grandmother’s life. Jacynthe, my father’s young sister told me about the little Avon Animal Figurines, her mother kept preciously in a cupboard, to give to the children… who would come to visit her.
These few words brought up one of the rare memories I have of my deer grandmother. I never forgot that little Bunny Pin, that you could open to find a little scented cream that we called ”Sent Bon” or Smell Good. A little touch of the cream, I would apply on my wrists and behind my ears as Ladies would.
The years went by and I lost my little pin. Out of curiosity, I try to see if I could find it online… and I found it on eBay! I learned that this Bunny Pin was part of a Collection produced for Easter by Avon in 1973.
In the Spring of 1973, I was 4 years old. I was going to start Kindergarten at the end of the Summer and going to be 5 years old later in the Fall. My adorable little braids had been replaced by a little “boyish” haircut that had totally been imposed on me!
That spring, just after Mother’s Day, my beautiful grandmother died and got to be with my grandfather in Heaven. She was only 60 years old.
It took me more than 50 years to realize that this little Bunny Pin Pal was in fact, my grandmother’s very last gift.
50 years later, a Writing Project, all the Beautiful Messages & Memories received from our beautiful Vachon family, Jacynthe’s Memories and a Very Special Easter Gift… from my Barry!
