In April 2019, I shared my first Coup de Coeur for Papier 2019. Five years later, as I am writing these few lines, I am sitting at my desk and I can hear the ocean roaring through the fog. For the first time in five years, I won’t be able to visit this Great Contemporary Art Happening.
So this year, the Papier Montréal, which has become La Foire Plural, will take the form of a virtual visit. As I was looking at the website, Christelle Lacombe’s thread works, caught my eye. A real gift to get to appreciate her Artwork for the first time and a nice surprise to learn that she was represented by Galerie C.O.A.
In recent years, several of my ”Coups de Coeur” have been for Artists from the Galerie C.O.A. At the end of last Summer, I had the pleasure of meeting Jean-Pascal Fournier, Owner and Curator of the C.O.A., as well as Moe Piuze, after purchasing one of is Artwork, a piece that I will write about soon!
From one thread to another… I spent a few hours in the company of several other artists represented by Galerie C.O.A. It became obvious to dedicate my Plural 2024 ”Coups de Coeur” to Galerie C.O.A. and their amazing Artists.
The C.O.A. Contemporary Art Gallery opened its doors in Montreal in May 2014. While the gallery strives to discover new talents, it’s also committed to exhibiting the work of artists with intellectual and physical disabilities known as “outsiders.” The gallery is home to a roster of both Canadian and international artists, playing on established conventions and the perception they can bring to them. What they all have in common: an unusual creation, hence the name of the gallery: “Créateurs d’Œuvres Atypiques” (creators of atypical works).
