Rug Hooking Raccoons

10 days before XMAS… Raccoon Trouble at the River House Rug Hooking

Before I came in the door of the River House, I had never even heard of ”Rug Hooking”. The XMAS Market ”Christmas in Petite” was being held just a few weeks after our arrival in November 2023.

An instant ”Coup de Coeur” for all the colourful creations and for Jane (the lovely artist & owner) who invited me to come back and learn to hook. I could not have imagine then, how it was about to change my life! Not only did I discover a new passion, but I found a beautiful close-knit community and wonderful new friends.

In the Spring, Jane announced a new project and invited us to choose a pair of critters that would get to board The River House Ark. All our pieces will be displayed in a book to come out in 2025.

Inspired by one of our mischievous nighttime visitors, I chose the raccoons!

From my idea, Jane created the most adorable and unique pattern.

I finally got started in the beginning of June. At that time, I only had completed another small piece… but I had to try. After struggling with some serious doubts and about 35 hours later, I was hooked!

ZoĂ© can’t resist a bed of wool…

When things don’t work, you just pull it out… and redo it! That’s how I managed to make that black eye disappear!

Two cheeky “raccoons,” Henri & ZoĂ© 🙂
